If he had been better in battle I would have considered saving him. Also in battle Ashley could be a tank when fully powered up. Plus you always save the women and kids first. Ashley has all sorts of issues she still needs to work out so that she can feel she lived a worthy life. Kaiden just seemed like he was more ready for death.
